Nature transformed through industry is a predominant theme in Edward Burtynsky’s work. As he describes it: “These images are meant as metaphors to the dilemma of our modern existence; they search for a dialogue between attraction and repulsion, seduction and fear. We are drawn by desire - a chance at good living, yet we are consciously or unconsciously aware that the world is suffering for our success. Our dependence on nature to provide the materials for our consumption and our concern for the health of our planet sets us into an uneasy contradiction. For me, these images function as reflecting pools of our times.”

3 things, as always.
1. I graduated. I was done with school late last year, but the actual convocation ceremony was only held middle of this year. It was a long, long road, with many diversions and sidetracks taken. But I finally gave my father what he has always wanted: to see me walk across the stage in a cap and gown, and receive that diploma. It was all for you, Babah.
2. I got engaged. After 6 years of bestfriendship, and 1.5 of that in a relationship, I said yes to Azwan Mahzan. This is it. He is it. He is The One. The Wan, even. I hope he knows what he’s in for.
3. I went to Argentina.
Thank you, 2012. You’ve been one heck of a year.
